Cheerleading Squad Training

SQUAD TRAINING

Both the junior and the senior squad train over two days each week, this is vitally important as cheerleading is a mixture of stunting, tumbling, jumping and dancing.

JUNIOR LEVEL 1

This is for beginner cheerleaders with no prior gymnastic training, age 7-14. Level 1 covers all the basics of each of the four areas and during the training times the athletes will learn the following skill sets:
TUMBLING:
Forward and backward rolls
Handstand
Cartwheel and Round Off
 Front Walkover and Back Walkover
STUNTING:
Basic 2 leg holds at knee, stomach and chest height
Basic 1 leg holds at knee and stomach height.
JUMPING:
Basic straight/straddle/pike jumps

SENIOR LEVEL 2

This is for cheerleaders who have had some training at level 1 or for ex-gymnasts who have the above skills. Athletes will be invited to move up from level 1 when they are ready and have completed all their skill sets.  At level 2 they will learn:
TUMBLING:
Front Handspring
Back handspring
STUNTING:
Intermediate 2 leg skills at shoulder and extension height
 Intermediate 2 leg skills at shoulder and extension height
Basic straight basket tosses (throwing a ‘flyer’ up into the air and catching)
Twisting skills into and out of 1 and 2 leg stunts
JUMPING:      
Connection of 3+ basic jumps
 intermediate herkie and hurdler jumps
